World democracy: a ranking of countries

THE Economist Intelligence Unit has published a list ranking the world's countries with reference to the level of democracy.

Here is the BBC's account that highlights the surprisingly modest rank of France in the Democracy Index 2013. It is estimated that:

• 15% are "Full democracies" (25 countries)
• 31% are "Flawed democracies" (52 countries)
• 23% are "Hybrid regimes" (39 countries)
• 31% are "Authoritarian states" (51 countries)
