Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi all,

I hope I'm posting this in the right place.

I've been interested in getting a light/window well installed in the front garden of our property to give our massively underused utility room a new purpose.

I've seen some around in the area so I see that they are allowed, I just have no idea how you go about getting one.

I'd obviously need permission from the council. In that respect it's actually Hammersmith & Fulham who have posted the most detailed advice online as to what would constitute a permissible light well in respect of the look of the street.

FYI, I'd really like one that can't be seen from the street at all. My plan is to excavate a section of the (currently concreted and rather bleak) front garden to install the light well then plant some flowers and hedges to both hide the well and make the space prettier.

I presume my next step would be to find a builder who can also help me draw up the plans to obtain this permission.

Has anyone done this themselves? Any tips on how to get cracking? Or indeed, any warnings to not even start?

Thanks so much in advance!
