Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

"Window farming," as it is called, is catching on in New York City and beyond. Window farmers use recycled 1.5 liter water bottles, clay pellets, plastic tubing and inexpensive fish tank air pumps to create their indoor gardens. There are now 4,000 registered users at windowfarms.org. Farmers are tending to their greens everywhere from the U.S. to Italy, Israel and Hong Kong.

It's an interesting idea, but once things started growing well, I can't see how you'd avoid losing a lot of the light from the window.   You'd be pretty limited in what you could grow too (can't imagine a massive sprawling courgette taking to it particularly well) and I'd fear for the integrity of whatever the bottle chains were attached to as the plants increased in weight!

Inexpensive?! Kits start at $140.. or $270 if you want plastic bottles included:

Mmmm, sounds like one of those nice ideas which could a bit useless when you scratch the surface. Thanks for the debunking.

I guess you could make one yourself quite cheaply and just have one row so the light's not blocked out?
