Will I finally be able to understand Soccer (sorry 'football')?

Flicking across my radio earlier today I heard a brief snatch about Sepp Blatter showing keen interest in how hockey scrapped their offside rule ten years ago and its loosening-up effect on the flow of the game. Was he thinking the unthinkable?  In any case it might take decades (which, as Philip Larkin said, might be a little late for me). Meanwhile I suppose my failure to 'see' offside means that I'm in touch with my feminine side.
