Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

This morning, Wightman Road was closed for resurfacing, without warning, between Endymion and Burgoyne Roads.

I've made enquiries and it appears that although the works were intended to be done at night, someone slipped up and they were instead commissioned to take place during the day.

Following a brief discussion which I had with the foreman on site, he offered to place additional diversion signs further north along Wightman Road, so that not all of the traffic would go down Burgoyne Road. He has also offered to station one of his men by Burgoyne Road to facilitate local access.

I've also spoken with the head of the highways department, who has told me that the contractors have already been instructed to leave the site today and to return tonight. Residents will be informed by letter. There is, I understand, one further day's work to be done, and this will also be done at night.

An engineer will shortly be attending in order decide at what point the works might safely be left before they are later resumed.

Sadly, whatever was done to make sure that not every vehicle traveling N-S along Wightman was diverted down Burgoyne has been undone. There has been a constant stream of traffic crawling past my front window since I got home at 7pm this evening. Not a word of forewarning from the council.
