Why are Haringey's major roads being used less?

I must admit as someone without a car I avoid Green Lanes as much as possible. If I'm taking the bus journey times are unpredictable, mostly it's busy and it can take 20 minutes or more to get down a small stretch of road. I can walk it faster but not if I have my work stuff and heavy shopping with me.

Also walking exposes me to the hazards of pollution (of the traffic is backed up) or if the traffic is quiet the particular brand of maniac driver we seem to have in the area.

If there was less traffic I would spend more time on Green Lanes and shop there more often.
