Who owns my neighbourhood?
Do you know who owns the land beneath your feet? If you could find out who owns a plot of land in your neighbourhood, would it change the way that you think of that place in any way?
The other day I came across a a nice little online operation up Huddersfield way. In essence it's an online information resource built using local council data. The site allows peope to find out exactly who owns what in their neighbourhood.
We've had a couple of conversations on HoL recenlty where peopel have been seeking lcoal land ownership information. So I took a quick peek.
The Council explains how the Who Owns My Neighbourhood? site works:
Who Owns My Neighbourhood? aims to give people a starting point for getting things done in their own neighbourhoods. We hope this service will make it easier for people to have conversations about their local area and for us to answer each other’s questions by sharing what we know. We want people to think about what personal responsibility we are each willing to take for the place where we live, and how we might be able to help each other to look after it.
This is a shared space – what grows from it is up to you.
If you have an interest in a particular plot of land, you can sign up to become a ‘community contact’ and keep in touch with other people who care about the same area. You can also share your latest news about local places.

Incidentally, It's probably just me but, HoL seems to have had quite a makeover recently.Great functionality and look. In my email to you also, I didn't explain why I was so interested in HoL. I went to what used to be Middlesex Poly (Now Uni) based in Cockfosters and after leaving halls, moved first to Palmers Green and then to the ladder where I stayed for many years in the 80's and 90's. The Mortimers Arms was my local in those days, it's now called somerhing else. But I loved living in and around Haringay and Hornsey and occasionally come back for the odd drink in the Suffolk.

Thanks Alan. Yes a few weeks back, we made some fairly minor tweaks which I hope have improved usability significantly.
Interesting to hear that you're a member of the Harringay disapora. Welcome to your virtual home! The Mortimer is Now the Old Ale Emporium and I think the Suffolk is now Ladbroke's. Try the much overhauled Salisbury when you're next in town.

Wow the Suffolk's gone! A whole bunch of us got thrown out of there on my 30th birthday do for singing "Who do you think you are kidding Mr. Hitler?" because a temporary landlord was being a bit strongarm with all of us 'locals' while the regular landlord was on holiday back in 1989
Interesting to hear the Salisbury's been revamped, it was a great old dive in those days. I recently saw on HoL that the Queens is closed and being turned into flats, which I think is a huge shame. We used to play a lot of Pool down there and it was always the starting point for weekend parties. Progress eh

I've tentatively got a meeting with a 'Crowd Funding' website operator along with some funding guys next Friday in London and am hoping to get down to have a drink with an old mate of mine who lives off Wightman Rd. If i can make it I'll definitely head to the Salisbury
