Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Is there anywhere in the area that sells FRESH curry leaves? I used to be able to get them in Sainsbury's and Tesco locally but they haven't had them for a few months. The dried ones just aren't the same :(

Have you tried Turnpike Lane? The Food Hall just wets of the junction with Waldegrave Road should have them.

Thanks for this query Emma and Hugh. i was just asked by someone looking, unsuccessfully, for fresh curry leaves in Sainsbury's recently and now I have also started to look. Apparently they really do make a difference in making a good curry.

Yes The Food Hall sells them. They are usually by the tills so you won't see them if you look outside where they have all their other fresh fruit and veg. Go in and explore the shop. It is one of my favourites.

They freeze really well - if you find some buy loads and pop them in the freezer.

thanks Betty, i was wondering bout freezing them x

Whilst we are talking fresh herbs- please do try my abfab love - pinch off fresh tarragon* leaves from stalk and put in white wine vinegar to infuse their flavour. You can firstly Bruise the leaves by rubbing them with a wooden spoon or crumple herbs to release maximum flavor. Strain and discard tarragon after few weeks.  You get DELICIOUS salad dressing vinegar to add to olive oil and BTW if you are feeling a bit lazy don't even bother taking the leaves of the stalk just put the whole stalk in vinegar. Warning though, don't use distilled vinegar as it is too harsh.

*(i know always sold in sainsburys and prob many other stores)
