Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Local youth worker Anna Darnell writes...

"The killing of Sabina Nessa is another moment for a collective conversation. I have been nervous about contributing. I find it difficult doing so knowing that a community of family and friends are having their most personal and torturous grieving process exposed for us all to partake in. But, having recently become victim to a random attack myself, the news of Sabina’s killing has made it harder not to share my thoughts."

Thanks for sharing this.

I think Wayne Couzens will be sentenced today for Sarah Everard's murder.

Found myself comforting my neighbour last week after a man hurled abuse at her in the park because she wouldn't stop to talk to him. (she was just out for a run).

Plus our own David Lammy MP thinks it's ok to give away women's hard won rights. Although I think he was just feeling a bit left out and was looking for some airtime. He certainly needs to brush up on basic biology if he thinks you can "make a cervix".

I heard Lammy's interview on Radio 4 this morning. Now I'm probably not as clued in on some of the nuances about gender issues as I should be but even I felt at least half the nation bristle at some of his 'thinking'. Mind you, he's not known for his cerebral contributions. Unless he can shout simplistic slogans about a particular topic he generally knows to keep quiet. So perhaps you're right, maybe he's been feeling left out lately.

I'm embarrassed for him to be honest. He's repeatedly stated this isn't an issue on the "doorsteps".

I raised the issue of retaining single sex spaces for women to a canvasser for Sadiq Khan at the mayoral elections. I was told I was "transphobic" and needed to "educate" myself.

I agree Esther and Brian, but the derailing and obstruction of progress on this issue by  men is a fundamental part of the problem. Let's not allow Mr. Lammy to do that here.

Absolutely agree.

Focusing my thoughts on Sabina, Sarah, Biba, Nicole and the countless other women affected by violence.
