Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Thank you for your enquiry regarding the West Green Road safety scheme.

West Green Road is indeed a priority area as was discussed in our letter to residents and local businesses sent out last October. We do not routinely engage in correspondence unless circumstances indicate otherwise.

We allowed additional time for receipt of consultation responses on this occasion because of the Christmas holiday and have been considering the various individual and group responses; many of which raise concern over the rumble wave aspect.

You ask what we plan to do about the road safety and I would respond by saying that the scheme was designed with precisely this objective in mind as per our letter of the 27th October. Given that many residents reject this part of our proposed safety scheme, we are having to consider alternative actions and this is why we have not been in a position to provide any new information until now.

I hope that you are satisfied with my response to your enquiry.  If you have any follow-up queries or need more information, please contact the Feedback and Information Governance Team in the first instance.

That's quite an odd response. As far as I remember (and I might be wrong because this consultation was not hosted on the council website) the 'road safety' proposals were for rumble strips and a (cough) 'Dutch style' shared space arrangement. It doesn't take much googling to find there's an absence of evidence that rumble strips slow vehicles (and quite a bit of the opposite - for the same reason people accelerate over a cattle grids). Also the Netherlands does not 'share space' on roads with lots of through traffic. Strange that a senior sustainable transport engineer has to be told of these very reasonable concerns through responses to a vaguely secretive consultation...

Well, apparently he qualified as a lawyer, not an engineer. Hence the unmistakable sound of arse-covering. It's all your fault for participating in the consultation. Good luck with that !
