Hello,
we had rather a pleasant surprise when we read an article in The Independent on Saturday. It was a list of the Top 50 Bookshops in Britain. We were positioned number 2 in the London & the South East. Number 2!
Here's the link to the article, with a rather fetching picture too. http://www.independent.co.uk/extras/indybest/arts-books/the-50-best...
Anyway, enough about that (number 2!), there's a whole load of stuff going on in the bookshop over the next couple of weeks.

This Sunday, January 29th it is our regular Board Games day at the shop. Starting at midday and going on all afternoon, come and join us to play some classic games and also try your hand at some of the new breed of board games available, like Carcassonne & Settlers of Catan. Tea, coffee and biscuits provided.

We are introducing a Photography Club at the shop. Meeting on Tuesday January 31st at 7pm, it's open to anyone with an interest in photography. We hope to see some of you there.

Our Writers Group meets on Wednesday February 1st at 7pm. This is a fortnightly group which gets together to share ideas and offer support. The focus is on fiction writing, in all its genres and it doesn't matter whether you're a published author or have just decided to try and write your first story. Everyone is treated as equals. It's £3 a meeting, to cover the cost of refreshments etc.

A week on Sunday, on February 6th at 1pm it's Knitting Day at the bookshop. Come along and join our merry band of knitters for a pleasant afternoon of chat, tea and biscuits. All levels of knitting skill welcome.

Looking forward we have a great event lined up on Thursday February 9th.
To mark the launch of Rhodri Marsden's new book Crap Dates, he will be holding a Crap Dates Workshop at the bookshop to make everyone feel slightly better about their terrible dating experiences. He'll give a handy run down of the 20 most common types of worst date - illustrated with examples from the book - before opening things up to the floor and allowing you to share your own gut-wrenching stories. He'll probably have no useful advice, but he's an excellent listener and is quite good at consoling single people who are a bit upset.
The book is available to pre-order at just £6.99, and there will be a prize for the person whose dating disaster story is deemed the most tragic.
Rhodri is a writer and musician, who has a weekly column in the Independent called 'Life of Marsden'. He currently plays in various bands including Scritti Politti, and is a rather lovely chap, to boot.
It should be a great night out, to get you in the mood for Valentine's Day and we hope to see you there. This is a free event

I'm adding some more events to the website this week and we're also looking to put on a week long festival celebrating Crime writing during April, so if you have any suggestions of authors or events we could put on, I’d really appreciate it.

Here's the link to our website, which I know doesn't work for a lot of you. However, you can copy and paste it into your browser (or just search "big green bookshop").

Have a great week and we hope to see you soon,
