Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Again some worrying data...

Just to note, I submitted this data to the council last week - and have heard nothing.

Thank you to Anna Abela our local councillor who has picked this up and is following up with the council :-)

HOW much more?

How much air quality data needs to be collected in Haringey and over how many more years, before the council does more than merely follow-up on paper?

And takes actual action, rather than publish action plans?

The council's laissez-faire policy has continued for years. Although Keir Starmer says he will deliver change (?), his local representatives can be relied on to deliver more of the same.

I inhaled traffic fumes to find out where air pollution goes in my body

vote Green if you want some real change on pollution

Who are the candidates in our area?

ALICE, in late January the Green Party announced some candidates in some Wards, but the list appears not yet finalised.

At the time of writing, neither Labour nor the Liberal Democrat Parties in Haringey appear to have listed candidates on their websites.

At the last election 2022, the Conservative Party polled 7.8% of the vote. The Tottenham Conservatives have been active in the past, but seem now to have left the field. Their last web address (https://www.tottenhamconservatives.co.uk/) "could not be found". Their national webpage is here.

The Reform Party appear not to have a Haringey web presence; their national webpage is here.

The Your Party appear occupied with internal elections.

By long tradition, the Friends of Finsbury Park host election hustings in the area. This year's hustings will take place on 15th March with time and venue TBA. Newsletter subscribers will learn first.

Some years ago, the FoFP hosted at the Haringey MIND Centre. It was packed to bursting and late arrivals such as local resident David Lammy MP could not at first get in!

As these public forums can be wildly popular, anyone interested should try to arrive early.

Lots of us were at a car crash of a meeting a few months ago where the representative of the council looked us in the eye and told us that an LTN on the Ladder was too difficult and the policy of the council was to do nothing about the traffic on the Ladder. I said then that we need new councillors and say it again. Labour officially as policy do not want to address this. Our votes need to go elsewhere. Green, by the sounds of it if clean air and less traffic is important to you.

TRUMP's latest move against climate action may have been motivated by a desire to distract attention from the Epstein files.

In any event, Trump's decision may (privately) hearten the local New Labour Administration, given their direction-of-travel.

With the local leadership focused on "rebel" Haringey Borough of Culture 2027,  we now hear even less about climate action. The removal of the previous Cabinet Member for Transport, Environment & Climate Action is only the most recent evidence.

In these respects, local New Labour has for some time been in line with Starmer's U-turn on Labour's previous Green New Deal.
