Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Weanie Beans: coffee from Harringay's warehouse district
Last week I met with Adeline Towers who runs her growing coffee business, Weanie Beans, from amidst the live-work spaces and music studios of Harringay's warehouse district, beyond Sainsbury's.
Adeline found her way into the coffee trade with her first job at tea maker and coffee roaster Whittards of Chelsea. Ending up as a buyer for the company, Adeline developed a passion for the dark mistress, and a belief that she could offer a great range of coffees through a business that reflected her own style.
The result was Weanie Beans. Established now for five years, the company has seen steady growth and has just picked up the contract to sell coffee at all live gigs run in Ally Pally.
Adeline found her way to the Arena Trading Estate through husband Scott Vining, drummer for ska-rap-punk band Imperial Leisure, who have their studio right next door to Weanie Beans' cosy little premises.
Whilst there's a little coffee kept in stock at the Harringay premises, it's primarily a training venue. So, if you'd like to try a cup of Weanie Beans, it's best to shop online at weaniebeans.com.

Another local business that would be interesting to investigate is Bakoven, a traditional German bakery operating (I think) our of the Chocolate Factory. I buy their sourdough rye loaves in quantity and keep them in the freezer, as I can't eat wheat bread. They deliver to local shops including the Londis in Ferme Park road, and to Kevin at Moka on either Fri or Saturday.

That space behind the Arena is something of an artists' warren. I'd love to know more about some of the other things going on down there - it looks like such a creative hub and community.

Yes, I have an article planned. Another member has offered an intro to the guy who started the whole scene off, but we keep missing each other.

Adeline has set up a little cosy area to serve coffee to locals, if you fancy dropping round. They're open 10-3 Tue-Fri, if memory serves.
As for the Arena area, it is a vibrant community. They did have a website (arena artists) but I can't seem to find the URL now. I think you can follow them on twitter @arenaartists
