Hello Harringay neighbours.
Living in the ward of Harringay our Parliamentary constituency is simply called "Tottenham". Why?
Our European parliamentary constituency is "London", our local councillors cover the "Harringay" & "St Ann's" wards and our London Assembly constituency is "Enfield and Haringey", all reflective of the area we live in. We do not live in Tottenham so why is our MP known as the "Tottenham" MP?
Under the proposed boundary changes published today the boundary crossing the Harringay ward is not intending to change, but that Shroud Green which is much nearer to Wood Green & Hornsey than Tottenham, will become part of the Tottenham constituency. Surely therefore the name of the constituency should be changed to be more reflective of the wide area it covers (and not just Tottenham). As almost all of the wards in the "Tottenham" constituency are in the borough of Haringey, why can't the constituency be renamed "Haringey and Edmonton", or simply "Haringey"?
If anything, the change in name would make all residents who don't live in Tottenham but are within the Parliamentary constituency of Tottenham feel reassured that their MP is in fact for their area too.
If you agree, please email the Boundary Commision for England at london@bcommengland.x.gsi.gov and let them know your views whilst they are in consultation with regards to our boundaries. We might not get another chance to do this!
Thanks!

anything but Tottenham eh?
would add a few thou' on the house...
Good ol' automatic spell check hey? A new topic for discussion? Stroud Green: an area "shrouded" in mystery? (hawh-hawh!)

What? The constituency boundaries in many places are just that. I think you're reading too much into it and am happy to be represented in parliament by the MP for 'Tottenham'. As for the council's shameful efforts to eradicate the name of "Harringay" from the map, that's entirely another matter.
PS Please don't tell me you posted on here without knowing the difference between Haringey and Harringay. It's on the top left hand corner of the main page:
Hi John
Yes, I do know the difference between the ward of Harringay and the borough of Haringey thanks, as clearly as I know that I also don't live in Tottenham.
