Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Water Water Everywhere: Exhibition 400 years of the New River

In September 1613, the New River was formally opened. Despite it’s name, it is not new and not a river, but a manmade canal that stretches from near Ware in Hertfordshire to Islington. It was built as a conduit to supply London with much needed fresh drinking water.

A significant proportion of the New River runs through the borough of Haringey and on September this year, a group of locals are helping to put on the Hidden River Festival.

In the meantime Enfield Museum is putting on an exhibition to celebrate the 400th anniversary of its completion. The exhibition focuses on the course of the river in the Enfield, but is still no doubt of interest to we down streamers.
