Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hello!

Growing in Haringey is a local community group working to support and co-ordinate community gardening and food-growing projects in Haringey.  Last year, we won money from the Tottenham Green Community First Fund, for a project in Tottenham Green we've called Streets in Bloom.

As with much of Haringey, the majority of streets in Tottenham Green are Victorian terraced housing, solidly built but architecturally lacking inasmuch as the small strips of land between the house and the street do not lend themselves to be gardened.  Many of these little plots have been paved over or concreted and with Streets in Bloom we want to re-green the front yards of Tottenham Green.

But we need volunteers!  Are you interested?  Could you spare a few days over the course of the Summer?  This Friday, 14th June, starting at 11.00am, we have a volunteer induction day at the community garden behind the Marcus Garvey Library in Tottenham.  We'll talk all volunteers through the project, do a little bit of work on the garden there before walking over to the Wellside of the Holy Trinity Church on Tottenham Green for some lunch.  We are slowly finding properties all over the ward, who would like help either growing new plants or introducing planters to their front yards.  If you or anyone you know lives in Tottenham Green, and would like some work to re-green your front space, get in touch too.  We just need a team of volunteers to help us on a couple of work days.

Do get in touch if you're interested.  You can contact me on growinginharingey@gmail.com or 07980 731562.  And it'd be great to hear from you about this or any other food growing/community gardening related ideas, updates or news.

warmest regards

Felix Waterhouse,

Co-ordinator, Growing in Haringey
