Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Is anyone having to reboot their router/modem regularly with Virgin Broadband? We're having to do it at least once a day. I think it may be a problem with their servers locally so if I notice a disconnect I will post the time on here, I would appreciate if others could do the same.

Why do you need a static address? Seen these people?
Or http://www.no-ip.com/ unless you're planning on running an Exchange (or similar) server from home, you'll get a load of bounce backs from Hotmail and others.
So I can use my work VPN (and therefore connect to the servers I need to get on to) when working from home - will look at both your suggestions though. Thanks.

I've had the same IP address for several months now (since September), including across router reboots.

While it's not guaranteed to stay the same, in practise it seems to. Depending how hard it is to adapt if/when it does change you might be able to get away with it
Sounds highly likely that Virgin's excuse of needing a static IP address is a load of twaddle to be honest.
We had nothing but problems when we were with Telewest and reading some of the problems here bring back the bad memories of muzak and call centres.

I think you should call them up and ask them to reduce the cost of the bill if you're not happy or threaten to move service providers, we had the same problems 4 years ago and when we called to cancel the account they offered to reduce our bill but they couldn't match the cost of Sky.

Katy M - I'm not sure about now but we had a static address for some reason. O2 provide a static address on their Pro package broadband and they are currently offering £125 cashback through Quidco.
2350 ish. Tried re authenticating using http://192.168.100.1 but it didn't work. Power cycled both modem and router. Still completely down. Bizarre.

Does all that router info mean anything to you, or anyone else?
Is a 38.4dB Signal to Noise ratio good or bad?
Are all the Critical (3) errors in my log a cause for concern?
The noise does seem high, single figures is good.

Yes practically all problems described I have had in Warham Road. Last year I tried in vain to get broadband and the TV sorted out. I noticed sub Contractors outside my house trying to lay a new cable to sort out my problem. Apparently the cable got stuck when feeding it through the underground cable tube and they aborted. I got no feed back from Virgin hence the problem still persisted. In sheer frustration I have defected to sky and so far so good.
Anyone else trying to use a remote desktop connection via Virgin Broadband? Ours drops out every few minutes which is INCREDIBLY ANNOYING!
Happens too often to post each time.
Yes, I do and am constantly having to log back in. I don't think that it stays connected for more than 15 minutes at a time but had been assuming that the problem was my computer ...
