Hi I live at the end of Lothair Road North and already experience quite a high (and increasing) volume of lorries and delivery vehicles early in the morning and in the evening accessing the warehouses at the end of the street. Recently I have noticed that the commercial rubbish collections for the large bins behind the Beaconsfield pub and serving Cafe Tramp, Hashtag etc are being collected very late (e.g midnight) or very early in the morning (4.30 am). The collections make a considerable amount of noise due to the size of the bins being dragged across the street to the extent that they are waking us up. I totally appreciate that the work needs to be carried out during quieter hours but does anyone know if commercial collection scheduling should take account of proximity to residential areas?
I have emailed Veolia to request this but would be interested to know if it's been an issue for anyone else. Thanks (tired and grumpy from today's 4.30 waking)

We've been having similar issues with Veolia picking up a large bin from Reids Pianos on St Ann's Road at around 3am on a Tuesday and Friday morning.
The lorry has to reverse (BEEP BEEP BEEP ARRGH) into our narrow, residential road and then it often takes them a few noisy attempts to pick up and empty the bin successfully. This is all happening about five metres from our bedroom window.
We have taken it up with Veolia, but no joy. I've resorted to earplugs.
Make sure that Veolia are the people you are chasing; we are just off Green Lanes and had a commercial waste team collecting restaurant bins from outside our house between three and five most mornings for a few months.
We contacted the council noise team - who are interested but understaffed - but got more joy from pestering the businesses whose bins were being collected, who were apologetic as they do not want to get a bad rep in the neighbourhood, and seemingly sorted the issue out eventually.
It is against the law to make unreasonable noise in residential areas at the dead of night - the council confirmed that - so you have right on your side.
Similar problem at the top of Frobisher Road. Around 5pm in the morning. I assume it is refuse collection from the Church hall. I will look to see who it is next time. Please announce the outcome of any discussions with Veolia.
