Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

We’ve cast our net and made a few calls to find out what treats are on offer locally for Valentine’s Day. I’m sure we’ve missed some gems - we’re hoping you’ll share your finds with us - but here’s a few we came up with.

How about a collection of Valentine's gifts and ideas from the most romantic city in the world at Little Paris in Park Road, Crouch End.

If you’re looking for an extra special way to say it with flowers, try Urban Flowers in Park Road. Urban specialise in a more vintage, more natural look, though they also keep a good stock of classic Valentine’s favourites.

If you fancy pushing the boat out, how about this fantastic hand crafted piece from new Harringay designers Narcissus. (Watch HoL for the story on Narcissus next week).

If you believe that food is the way to your sweetheart’s stomach, we also have a few food treats. Dunn’s are doing a range of cakes and other treats.

New boys on the block over in West Green, Le Banc have a special Valentine’s menu. Owner Jan Topcu promises that on arrival, you’ll walk across the rose petal strewn entrance and be seated at a candle lit table. Along with the special menu, Le Banc is offering a "Kiss me Cocktail - guaranteed to set hearts on fire”.

St James’s N8 are also offering a fine looking Valentine’s menu including oysters to make sure your evening is special in every way!

Beauty Works are offering a special Valentine’s package - a one hour session including a deep cleansing facial with a relaxing face and neck massage, a manicure and pedicure to get your hands and feet all ready and sorted to be on show.

And if you’re coming up to Valentine’s Day single, how about FoodCycle’s speed date and man auction event! (Yes, Man Auction!). They’re going to auction off dates with every single guy that works for FoodCycle (and their friends!). There will also be raffle prizes.

It’s all for charity! 13th February 2012 @ The Old Dairy 1-3 Crouch Hill, N4 4AP

And finally, if you really don’t like Valentine’s day at all, how about an exhibition at Jealous Gallery in Crouch End which highlights the commercialisation of Valentine’s Day. As part of their annual exhibition featuring some of St Martin’s best recent graduates, Jealous is displaying Surplus – an exclusive fragrance only available to those feeling flush.

The controversial artwork was produced by Jammie Nicholas and includes an advertising campaign, the all-important scent beautifully packaged and presented. But it is in fact made from distillations of his bodily waste.

Four graduates of St Martin’s Fine Art degree are taking part in the exhibition, with one being awarded the prize of their own exhibition at the gallery and the opportunity to have limited edition prints made there.
