Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Last night we had a meeting combining the Street Festival and the Charter. (I'll add another post on the Charter element of the meeting).

After the last meeting, I was beginning to wonder if there was really the political will to make the Festival possible. After last night I'm glad to report that my belief is back. I do think it will happen. It's not yet 100%, but I'd say that we're there all bar the shouting.

We have a date set - 20th September - put it in your diaries!

Following on from the survey, the theme will focus on celebrating the rich and diverse mix of area and our fascinating history. If those sound dangerously "worthy", fear not, they're just the theme. Out of them, we're going to build a party!

20th September is the date for the main event. Green Lanes will be closed between 7AM and 7PM between Salisbury Road and McBridge.

But on top of that, we're going to be planning a range of satellite events, to be arranged by local groups, on the 18th & 19th September in and around Harringay.

Now's the time we all need to put our money where our mouths are. I've been annoyingly insistent at the meetings that the festival shouldn't be just a Council & Harringay Traders affair. I've been insisting that a significant element should be by and of "we the people". And we have that commitment. So, what will that mean?

1. By the middle of next month, the organising groups will have used your responses to the Harringay Online festival survey to develop a sense of what should be included on the 20th. We will all then be given a chance to input on the final design.

2. With regards to 18th & 19th, a few of us are now casting around for people/groups that might want to organise an event/show/whatever under the auspices of the festival. Adam Coffman has already spoken to the schools, Railway Fields and the Salisbury who are all interested in putting on some events/entertainment. We've also got various artists/art collectives, local historians and a host of other local groups and talent. Give us your offer (or make your suggestions) over on this post here.

3. It's also probably time for people to start throwing their hat into the ring to say they'd like to be involved. You can do that over on this post here.

This may have been suggested on the Victorian bridge thread but is it possible that our McBridge might be painted in time for/ in honour of our festival?

"Harringay
Green Lanes"

? ? ?
"Harringay Green Lanes" is now what Cllr Canver has decided we are. (A great advance from insisting it's "Green Lanes"). So, if McBridge were to be adorned with new wording, that'd almost certainly be the name they'd use. Not sure we'll make it happen, but maybe we should try Laura. Good point.
