Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
unsticking and draught proofing sash windows - recommendation needed
I have a house full of painted shut victorian sash windows. I have had one of the big firms round to quote for replacement - they have told me that they don't need to be replaced and they can be renovated instead. It is not worth their while as they prefer to supply joinery rather than man power.
Can anyone recommend someone who can unstick and service sash windows?

We had Acorn Windows work on ours. Dominic is lovely and they are local, based on Green Lanes near the Salisbury. They are mentioned in the Tradespeople Group.

Mmm, strange, seems to be working okay. Just go straight to the group - hover over groups in the tab towards the top of the page then select Tradespeople's Group from the drop-down. You'll find discussions about Acorn & other providers.

I had my sash windows repaired and then replaced by Select a Sash, phone 07930196379 (Bob). He did a lovely job. Grazyna

We used The Classic Window Company to overhaul nearly every window in our house - unsticking, re-weighting, draughtproofing, a new sill, restrictor locks, catches, replacing broken coloured lights etc. They weren't cheap but I would highly recommend their work.

We got several quotes - there wasn't a massive difference in price but The Classic Window Company seemed the most knowledgeable. We've had them back since to sort out the gap round the front door and do some remedial work on the patio doors - we initially had someone contracted by Stroud Green Windows do a bit of draughtproofing around the doors - not very effective and could not recommend.

Just in case anyone else finds this old thread and is ringing round the recommendations, let me save you a phone call as the Classic Window Company is unfortunately no longer. The number goes to another window company in Rayleigh in Essex called Taylors Sash Window Specialists.
