Unexpected resignation of HFH Chair
According to Companies House records Mr Keith Jenkins, the Chair of the Board of Homes for Haringey, resigned on Monday of this week, the 26th of September 2016, one day before the Board meeting scheduled for the 27th. At that meeting he was due to present a topic as well as, naturally, chair the proceedings. In addition it is just one month until the ALMO’s AGM and the preparatory papers for that meeting projected the need for a new Vice Chair but not a new Chair. Although we can only speculate was this unplanned?
It comes in the wake of HLA questions to the Board raising the issue of the extravagant £35,000 cost run up by the ALMO in defending against a second HLA Judicial Review challenge - this time against a decision to remove all support for umbrella groups. Those questions remain unanswered. Despite requests HfH have to date provided no clarification or explanation concerning Mr Jenkins’ departure either. Is this a victory for the HLA?
Mr Jenkins took a high-profile role in the conflict with the HLA and was criticised by Mr Justice Wilkie at the time of the first Judicial Review for ‘arrogance’ and ‘high-handedness’. Lloyd Grandson, HLA Chair, said he hoped that now ‘finally we can move forward under a new Chair’.

The Chair of the Board for Homes for Haringey, Keith Jenkins, has resigned after nearly four years on the Board.
Mr Jenkins, a solicitor for city law firm Devonshires Solicitors, has worked for housing associations and local authorities on housing issues for more than 30 years. He Chaired the Board as Homes for Haringey went through a six month review of its services last year that saw it secure a new ten-year contract to deliver the best possible housing services for Haringey.
Cllr Alan Strickland, Cabinet Member for Housing, Regeneration and Planning at Haringey Council said: "Keith has made a lasting difference to Homes for Haringey, leading the successful bid for a new 10 year contract for the organisation."
"I'm grateful to Keith for his thoughtful and innovative leadership on housing in our borough and wish him well for the future."Keith Jenkins said: “We achieved what I set out to get for HfH, a future. It is for others to realise that. It has been an enormous privilege to be able to make a contribution.”
Andrew Billany, Managing Director of Homes for Haringey said: “Keith’s determination and innovative thinking as Chair have been driving forces in how Homes for Haringey has developed over the past few years. He leaves us in a strong place and I thank him for that.”
After serving as an Independent Board Member from November 2012, Mr Jenkins was appointed Chair in February 2014. Tom McGregor, an independent Board Member, will act as interim Chair until permanent recruitment takes place.

Most of the time, comings and goings from various organisations happen without anyone outside being aware of the sometimes complex; but often personal and very ordinary everyday reasons for someone's decision.
Asking whether someone's departure may be a "victory" for this or that issue or interest seems to be speculation. Has the Haringey Leaseholders' Association asked Mr Jenkins directly - and in neutral terms?
(Declaration of Interest: I was one of the councillors nominated to the Board of Homes for Haringey until December 2012 when my former Kobertory colleagues removed me from all Council committees and outside bodies as a reward for thinking for myself. I don't know Mr Jenkins.)
