On 1 April 2013 very significant changes were made to the legal aid scheme which affect women’s access to legal advice and representation in key areas of law. This half day course organised by Rights of Women will provide an overview of changes to legal aid for family law and immigration and asylum law cases and an understanding of what provision remains available for women affected by violence. It will enable you to identify whether your service users are eligible for legal aid and support them in making an application.
This course will also explore the government’s current consultation on further changes to the scheme which, if introduced, will affect survivors of violence including proposals to introduce a residence test and changes to criminal law legal aid.
It is open to all professionals working in London boroughs on violence against women and girls issues from the community, voluntary and statutory sectors including refuge workers, IDVAs, ISVAs, social workers, housing officers, police officers, education professionals and health professionals.
Participants will receive relevant materials and copies of relevant Rights of Women legal guides.
Those wishing to attend must complete a booking form and email it to training@row.org.uk. Booking form and course details can be found here: http://www.rightsofwomen.org.uk/training.php
