Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Apparently someone was stabbed to death near Turnpike Lane station last night... terrible news.

i really think the government needs to be held accountable for the drastic increase in crime in london and the rest of the country. This is the result of years of cuts to our services through ‘austerity’ measures. Surely enough is enough, we need investment in schools, police and health services.

... well... whilst the sheeple keep voting with their wallets...

Totally agree. Enough is enough and something like this should be the final straw.

The whole of Duckett’s Common is police taped off, and will be for a while yet, according to police I spoke to this morning.

‘A couple of the Officers I spoke to suggested it was gang related, which wouldn’t surprise me, ( the news suggested the victim was known to the police ) and another Officer said that they were making real progress in the area up until 8 months ago when funding meant they had to scale down the operations.

Again not a surprise as the regular policing leaflets we got through the doors dried up a while back.

On Wednesday I was chatting to a couple of mounted police who were patrolling the streets on the ladder, they said that gang tensions were building in the area. I told them that at 2 o clock in the afternoon, and wearing hi viz uniforms, they probably weren’t going to see much evidence of that. Come back at night.

although Wood Green shops on the high Rd look like they will open today, don’t try driving to Turnpike Lane as the crossroad is inaccessible to cars. Tube station is open though.

... well... as David Lammy pointed out... the gangs wouldn't exist without the demand for drugs from middle class white people...

Jesus... you think only middle class white people buy drugs?  That must be why there is so much gang activity in Tottenham too, then, crammed full of middle class white people as it is.

David Lammy is an idiot. Two years ago at community/police meeting he proclaimed  " I HAVE A VISION FOR TURNPIKE LANE "

He never said what it was.

This must be it

I think he called Ducketts Common ‘Turnpike Common’ too. Not great given he lived a street away from it...

I don't mind D Lammy in general but he doesn't seem to be doing much to improve our area. That's why I voted Lib Dems this time (to zero effect!)

He doesn’t even live in it anymore!  On wider issues I do think he is a good MP though and at least he has a connection to Tottenham constituency and wasn’t just parachuted in like some are (Milibands for example) with no connection to the area because it was a dead cert winning seat.

I've not seen you blame motorists for any motoring related deaths so can I presume that this is a purely moral judgement on people who do something you don't?

So sad that so many lives are ruined. What a weird statement from David Lammy I would have thought the problem was a lot more complicated than that.

I think what David Lammy was getting at was that it's very easy for people to just dismiss the violence as 'gang-related' and therefore nothing to do with ordinary people, as though they're a separate population. But those gangs are funded by the demand for drugs and it's middle class people who have the cash for a bit of weed or some coke for the weekend. I'm sure most of the middle class consumers don't give a second thought to how their drugs got to their dealer. Or which 14 year old carried the money.
