Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

TURFING recommendation - does anyone know a reliable, reasonably priced gardener who lays turf?

I want a large section of my garden lawned.

Has anyone had a lawn laid by someone they would recommend?

Many thanks

Thanks Neil

Morton Gamble did ours and were great - there's a post by Matt from MG with his details, here.

Many thanks

Hi, we laid our turf ourselves - we bought it from http://thompsonsofcrewshill.com/ and the quality was great, cost us £80 including delivery for the whole lawn and has been the best £80 we've spent in a long while! They may be able to recommend someone to lay it for you too.

Wow! Well done. Thanks Sue

No, we just dug it over - the previous lawn was was pretty trashed after we did some building works - we then levelled it then lay the turf and its growing at a rapid rate!! To help with the levelling Thompsons offer some top soil which was also a good price but we were on a bit of a budget....

Dear Louise,

I don't wish to rain on your parade but as an experienced gardener I felt I should give a word to the wise.

This is the worst time of year to lay turf. It can be done but you will need to water the lawn daily and by watering I mean 'soaking'. Equally, you won't be able to walk on it for some time. This is due to the 'stress' the grass will have to endure over the summer.

The best time is late autumn when the soil is still warm and the weather does most of the watering! Equally, the roots have ample time to develop before the following growing season and the increased metabolic demands put on the grass in late spring/summer.

Yours respectfully,

Ewan Alexander
