Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Stuck in this morning's jam up Wightman Road, I wondered why there is no left-turn signal on the traffic lights at Turnpike Lane junction, timed to coincide with the right-turn phase on traffic coming from Hornsey. It would ease things up considerably as six or seven cars could turn left out of the queue.

I wonder why there's a bus lane coming down from Hornsey High Street to Turnpike Lane. It creates one very congested lane under the bridge, and no busses can get to the start of the lane quickly anyway. In effect, if it wasn't there at all, cars and busses would surely move through the junction faster which would be better for everyone!

That junction had some regular traffic light failures a few years ago, and every time, without fail, traffic flowed better over the cross road, and pedestrians crossed quicker and safer from every direction. Even in rush hour, there were almost no queues in any direction with the same volume of traffic. I asked TFL if they'd consider turning them off and monitoring to see for themselves; they declined. Once they were down for two days. It was bliss coming down from Muswell Hill and turning right onto Wightman! One would have thought this was a solution worthy of investigation. Obviously not though ;)

I have often thought the same thing when sitting there waiting to turn left.
