Have heard this morning that the Tottenham JCP office was extensively damaged by fire / vandalism (not mentioned in any news). As a result the office cannot be occupied by staff for many weeks or possibly months.
Staff are depolyed in other nearby local offices (changes daily).
Staff may or may not have access to info - it is improving daily.
Pending any official info being put out in local press my contacts are advising
Call national enquiry line for info as to where to go for pre booked interviews - 0845 604 3719.
They will issue callers with a local phone number - which works that day only - daily changes.
Someone should then be able to advise you where to go/what to do.
Also available is the Stratford Benefit Processing Centre enquiry number 0845 600 0148 which customers should already have. Or call your specific section number for eg JSA claims etc.
Hope this is helpful.
Anyone who lost homes in Tottenhham and cannot work/get access to own money - call 0845 604 3719 and explain although little chance of emergency financial assistance i fear unless JCP have organised soemthing centrally.
Happy to try to answer/get answers from indviduals affected.
Customers can go to alternative JCPs (Wood Green, Edmonton, Palmers Green) but no guarantee they will be able to deal with displaced Tottenham customers without prior notice or appointment - best to phone first.
Please remember staff from Tottenham JCP (some who have served there for nearly 30 years) also very upset at destruction of the area and many also live locally. They are very sympathetic to situation of those whose homes were lost. Many in tears when they reported to work this week at sheer level of damage they saw .

Benefits recipients who are affected by this can also receive advice face-to-face at the Tottenham Green Leisure Centre, Philip Lane from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm every day (including weekends). No appointment is necessary. The phone number is 020 8489 5308.
On the related issue of the damage to the post office, and the consequent problems which pensioners are having in collecting their pensions, I have been in touch with the Minister's office and hope to hear more later today or tomorrow.

Post Offices Ltd. are in discussion with the Council and other organisations with a view to finding replacement premises for the Bruce Grove Post Office. There is now widespread awareness amongst both the Council and the Ministry as to the difficulties which OAPs are having in cashing their pensions, and council officers in the regeneration and adult social care departments are working on the problem.
I am attaching a copy of POL's press release.
