Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Tottenham Online?
Apologies if this is off topic or in the wrong place, but I wasn't sure where to put it.
I've lived in Haringey for the last three years, on Mattison Road and Fairfax Road for two, and now I live in Tottenham, near Downhills Park. I joined HoL quite a while ago, and I find it to be an invaluable resource - it's fantastic that the area has something like this.
I hope no-one takes offence at me asking about this on here, but my question is this: does anyone know of any other, similar local online communities around? I've seen one for Stroud Green, for example (stroudgreen.org). Is there one for Tottenham/Seven Sisters area? (I'm sure someone will suggest I Google it, but believe me, I've tried, to no avail).
This is not to detract from the value of this place - I think HoL is a fantastic resource, and I realise you do occasionally cover things in my local area - the Fair Deal supermarket, for one. And there was a thread about Seven Sisters recently. I just wish there was something similar for Tottenham. Or perhaps something could be incorporated into this site? (Although I understand the main focus is Harringay).

I've been told about a website called: In Tottenham.
Can you please confirm:
(1) Whether the Council has made or is making any contribution either financial or in staff time to this site and if so how much?
(2) Alternatively how much is the Council charging for the work it is putting into the website?
I'm also told there are poster ads on lampposts in Tottenham Hale advertising the website.
(3) Can you please confirm that the normal commercial rates apply and that the Council is getting the full advertising income.
(4) If not, why not? And how much income is being forgone?

Neville, I haven't spotted the ads you mentioned about the InTottenham website. I did see this one advertising Newlon's flats. It seems to be on public land. If so it should be paid for. I know some people are unhappy about the Council having ads on public facilities. But - given the appalling cuts faced by local councils - if they're there, I think advertisers should be paying the market rate at each location.

In answer to your questions I can confirm the following;
The website is an initiative of the Marketing Tottenham Partnership. The partnership is led by the private sector and set up to promote Tottenham as a visitor destination and to increase footfall for local businesses.
The council are making no financial contribution to the website. However an officer from the Business and Enterprise team sits on the Marketing Tottenham steering group and contributes approximately five hours of time a month to work focused on promoting the area, including website development.
The poster ads in Tottenham Hale are paid for by Newlon Housing Association and Newlon have advised us that they own the site location. Newlon are a member of The Marketing Tottenham Partnership and have provided this advertising free of charge.

I've had new information which corrects my earlier posting on 17 August when I passed on what Haringey's "Economic Regeneration" team had emailed me: that Newlon Housing association "owned the site location" where there were poster ads.
This appears to have been a misunderstanding. (Possibly, Newlon were referring to these ads.)
Haringey's Communications team have now told me that the lamppost banners mentioned by Neville Collins are Haringey-owned lamp columns. Like other lamppost ads, these are managed by a external company which sells the space mainly to local businesses at commercial rates. Newlon Housing currently has 23 banner sites: 7 at Town Hall Approach, Tottenham and 16 in Tottenham Hale. Newlon pays commercial rates.
