Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Council notice:

Applications are open for stallholders wanting to get involved with Tottenham Green’s first “Medley Market”.

A one-day trial market will be held on Tottenham Green East on Saturday 29 September and stalls will be free to host.

The launch of a pilot market comes in response to calls from local people. It also delivers on Haringey Council’s 12 in 2012 pledge to host activities across Tottenham and improve the public space at Tottenham Green.

The Medley Market will coincide with the Project Tottenham community film festival weekend.

Applications to host a stall at the market are open now and must be submitted no later than Friday 7 September. There will be no charge for market pitches, but all stallholders must apply for a street trader’s licence, for which there may be a fee.

The council hopes to see a range of stalls at the market and priority will be given to applications that offer the best products and best meet Tottenham’s local needs.

Successful applicants will be informed in the week commencing September 10 and will be given guidance and support on applying for a street trader’s licence.

For more information on the market and application criteria, or to apply for a stall, download the attached Medley Market application form.

From time to time there have been stalls on Tottenham Green and - like any other green open space - these can add to its liveliness and attract new people who I hope will enjoy, value and help defend it.

Although - just like any other green open space - care needs to be taken to balance different uses, and in particular to preserve the greenness. For some time on a small part of Tottenham Green, desire paths have been allowed to widen and merge into packed mud.

Tottenham Green turns to Tottenham brown

Can I also add a word of caution. The so-called 12 in 2012 are a just a bit of overblown Council PR. For some of us who live near High Road Tottenham and have been involved in trying to make improvements, having this list as "pledges" is, frankly, embarrassing.
