It's been there for a while now but, in case you've missed it, try the Granier bakery a couple of doors north of the intersection at Turnpike Lane. They do a great range of fresh central European style breads and bakery treats. Pretty cheap too.

Ummm... That place is Spanish through and through
I'm not too excited by their breads and cakes but have a weakness for the mini sugared croissants.

I recently discovered La Princesse patisserie on Blackstock road (opposite the small Sainsbury's). They do authentic French millefeuilles, the fruit tarts aren't bad, and all cakes are only £1.35 to take away!
The bakery is indeed a Spanish chain but I think their baking style is pan-European - it is very different to most Spanish panaderias, with a much wider range of bread and pastries, and they are very popular in Spain as a result.
They bake everything on site and while the sourcing and production methods are perhaps not artisan in the modern London sense, you are eating fresh food made by a real baker who got up early and worked very hard indeed.
The quality is not exceptional - it's no Ronde de Pain patisserie - but neither are the prices astronomical. I enjoy their pastries and coffee, and the nice multi-lingual atmosphere. Way better than "the Costas" in my opinion.
