Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi all!

I often see members posts asking for things (Offered Free) and some of you pipped at the post - I run my local (Enfield with around 5,000 members) branch of the UK online based non-profit voluntary recycling/reuse organisation ilovefreegle.org - Freegle (Means 'Free Giving Locally Easily') is an online forum where members can offer and/or request just about anything so long as it's free and legal. My group in Enfield saved over 80 tons of perfectly useful stuff from landfill and UK wide save many hundreds of tons every month.

There are over 385 branches and more than 1.5 million members giving away things they no longer want and/or getting things they do.  Freegle is run entirely online via Yahoo Groups (By over 1,000 dedicated unpaid volunteers) since we have no regular funding so you will need a Yahoo ID to register - It's completely free to register and to use Freegle - We only have one goal 'To Stop Good Stuff Going to Landfill' and in doing so support our local communities.

Freegle actively encourage Schools, Colleges, Uni's, Community Groups, Food Banks, Hostels, Safe Houses, Sheltered Housing, Allotment Assoc. Charities, Other non-profits and many more who can apply to join the Freegle community to get the resources they need completely free of charge.

You can also offer up broken white and electrical goods on Freegle someone may be able to fix them or use for spares/repair - So when your washing machine or DVD player breaks down offer it on Freegle and arrange a mutually convenient time (With whoever responds) for them to pick it up. You can post a 'Wanted' ad for another Fridge Freezer/Bike/TV or whatever or respond to an offer of another one and when it breaks down put it up and get another.

Freegle have won over 35 local and national Green Awards since we opened our virtual doors in September 2009 including being finalists in last years Climate Week Awards in our category won by the Isle of Wight so we must be doing something right :-) You'll find us at our main website ilovefreegle.org or on Facebook and Twitter -

To register go to ilovefreegle.org and use the 'Find a Group' link put in your postcode or area and it will bring up all of the groups in your area. Choose one click on it to be taken to the Freegle Yahoo Group you've chosen and 'Join This Group' register and wait for the confirmation email click on the link to go back to the group and click on 'Messages' to see what's being offered or requested. Hackney has a group as do Islington and Enfield to name but a few.

Freegle doesn't have many rules but here are the important ones 'No Swapping' 'Lending' 'Borrowing' Selling' 'No Live Animals' No Spamming' - Please feel free to ask any questions I'm happy to help :-)
