Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Did some food shopping in Thornton's Budgens while I was in Crouch End today, and thought it was a great shop. It's truly a community supermarket, clearly very eco-minded and loads of interesting, organic etc stuff in there as well as all the usual things. Prices seemed pretty good on the whole, with enough bargains to keep me happy.

I wish it was bit nearer and not so hard to park nearby, but I think I'm going to try and support it rather than all the big chains - it's sandwiched between Waitrose and Tescos, with M&S up the hill. But it feels much more individual than any of those shops.

Slight geographical error - Thornton's Budgens is at the end of the row of shops that include an opticians, Greigs, Tesco and Nicolas (but not in that order), Waitrose took over the old Woolworths.  However, it is a great shop and, yes, very individual.  We've being using it, in all its various formats, since 1999 and, even though we live near Seven Sisters, still do.  I'd also recommend Halen as being well worth a visit and the (fairly) new remainder bookshop.  Crouch End is an interesting place and, so far, there has not been much of a penetration by the big chains - long may it remain so.

Really appreciate this!!! Do keep speading the word!

BTW We do have a small car park at the back (off crouch hall road) and do free home delivery within 3 miles - you shop, we drop - or you can e-mail or phone in a list; its free if you spend over £25....

Does this mean that you can shop in store, pay and then leave the shopping to be dropped off at an arranged time? On shopping over £25, of course?

It does indeed!

However you want to shop (instore / over the phone / by email) you can have it delivered for free if you spend over £25.

Is it the pay-and-display car park behind the shop, or do you have your own dedicated spaces? I got a ticket once in there because it wasn't clear which were P&D spaces and which were reserved for business.
if you go into pay & display, go to far left and you'll see back of our store; you can park in there for free.  sometimes its a bit crowded, if the back door is open, say you're a customer shopping & you can double park and leave keys with whoever on back door while you shop
Hi Maddy  you're right. Also have you seen the Food from the Sky stand. It's veg that is grown on the roof of Budgens!  - ten metrres from soil to shelf. I've been involved as a volunteer in growing the food.
