Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The world of regen experimentalist Tottenham Hale re-shaper Councillor Alan Strickland

Councillor Alan Strickland participated in the recent third annual London Real Estate Forum (10-11th June) to tell the assembled developers, estate agents, architects, urban designers, local politicians, planners and regeneration experts, of Haringey Council's extensive building plans.

There is not a transcript of Councillor Strickland's contribution to a panel discussion on 'Opportunity London' to provide us with any insight into the council's thinking. However, thanks to journalist Paul Coleman's twitter account - @paulkaz - we learn a little about the intentions of Councillor Strickland's policy.

"We want to complete reshape Tottenham Hale," says Haringey Councillor Alan Strickland

Cllr Alan Strickland tells developers at #LREF2015: "Haringey is a borough open to experimenting with different types of regeneration."

We knew about the council's plans to completely re-shape Tottenham Hale by the 75 new blocks of flats, shops, and offices shown on the Allies + Morrison masterplan fantasy regen model. But the regeneration experimenting is a new claim. As usual there is little detail about what the soundbite actually means, and it would be good to have clarification on how the regeneration experiments will impact on the existing community.

Before speaking on the panel Councillors Strickland had to face representatives of Haringey Defend Council Housing, who were leafleting event attendees as they went in. The only comment from Councillor Strickland was that some claims in the HDCH leaflet are not true. But again, he has not provided any explanation as to what is not true and why it is not the truth.

LREF claims to be 'the premier event for leading players in London's property and investment sector', and involves two days of 'discussion, debate and deals'. Council tenants are not invited to attend; and the organisers are explicit that participation is 'exclusively reserved for developers, landowners and public sector organisations'. The other London Boroughs taking part were Barnet, Brent, Camden, Ealing, Hackney, Hounslow, Kingston, Lewisham, Richmond, Southwark, Wandsworth, and Westminster.
