When I was in the States some years ago, I was appalled at the 'pinkification' of girls' lives. Everything from duvet covers to shoes to fingernails was a vile tacky pink. This moved to the UK a few years ago, but some doughty campaigners have fought back. Some of the major toy stores have had to back off from dividing toys and books into boys' and girls'. I've just come back from W H Smith in Wood Green, possibly the last place to buy decent birthday cards and found the card display refurbished. With the exception of a somewhat sanitised 'humour' section, all the cards are him n hers. It's all brother/sister, Grandad/Grandma/Mum/Dad etc. Not just separate cards, but all displayed on entirely separately sides of the aisle. Should we just go back to making our own?
