The Riots by Gillian Slovo at the Tricycle Theatre

We went to the Tricycle Theatre to see Gillian Slovo's play The Riots. It uses extracts from verbatim comments to build a picture of the riots as they happened. And of peoples interpretations of what happened, why and what needs to be done. Quotes were taken from: rioters; onlookers; victims; police; politicians; "experts"; and "community leaders".

It was moving, thought-provoking, irritating and scary. Afterwards there was a short discussion with a panel and audience members. The panel we saw included John McDonnell MP who contrasted legalised looting by bankers and by MPs in the expenses scandal.

I'd like to hear views from other HoL members who've been to the play. (It has sold out, though there may be some returns at the box office.)
