Bananas are what's known as a "known value item" (KVI) in food retail.  OTOH they are the number one item sold by supermarkets, so there is pressure to keep prices low and comparable with other retailers.  As I recall there are about 90 KVIs, that is products that most consumers can be expected to know the price of (things like milk, eggs, bread, juice etc).  Supermarkets tend to make their profits out of the thousands of other lines they sell.  If you really want to compare then it is better to compare the price of a representative "basket" of goods between shops.

Useful. Thanks Sarah.

Thank you Sarah

Thanks Sarah. For me, bananas are a becoming known value item.

NB. I have updated the main topic at the top for new information. Earlier this evening Fairline were displaying loose bananas for 64p per kilo. Fairline are the big shop are diagonally opposite Yasir Halim and on the corner of Green Lanes and Salisbury Road.

Is there any better banana value around Green Lanes?
