Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The Peoples Palace Network see potential for new life at Ally Pally

The Peoples Palace Network have identified opportunities to develop the currently disused spaces at Alexandra Palace into local/London wide resources. The network believe that Alexandra Palace could play a much larger role in building London's community and believe that a new vision of supporting and promoting social businesses, positive youth schemes and new approaches to sustainable energy could send huge ripples out into the capital.

The Network are currently looking for people/groups who can offer their experience to help to get these ideas off the ground. Get in touch with Sally@thepeoplespalace.org.uk for more information.

My guess is that SallyPally would be the person to ask. Reading her page, Clive would also know. I'll share this thread with them and see if we can't get one of them to come and tell us a little more about the group.
Hello,

Sorry it took me so long to catch up with this thread, in the process of moving emails.

I have been mobilising a number of useful leads for the last 28 months whilst taking myself off to asset transfer seminars and the like, looking for possible ideas to enable the palace to link up with its local community more. I recently (last October) attended the AP Stakeholders meeting and found out a good deal about what the current thinking around what to do with the place. Sadly the word 'community' wasn't really mentioned.

I was advised by one of my contacts at Coin Street Communit Builders to look into the potential of the Community Builders fund http://www.communitybuildersfund.org.uk/. I then sat down with another contact who is particularly good at writing project plans etc and composed a concept paper re. the opportunity for AP to use this fund, detailing the importance of engagement with local people and Londoners at large. I since had a meeting with the chair of the trust and the interim manager to chat some more and now have a meeting on the 12th with my Coin Steet contact, a representative from the funding managers (BASSAC), the interim manager and the manager of the business arm of the AP charity. They certainly seem interested and it continues to be a very interesting journey for me.

So that is a very long story short!

Get back to me with any specific questions but I apologise now if there is a delay in response. I am back to work next week plus keeping up with this and other projects on the boil so I don't have a huge amount of spare time. I will be sure to keep Harringay Online updated as to my progress. There is talk of launching a group called The Friends of The Palace. . .which doesn't currently exist, just lots of sub groups. I may be trying to pull the current groups together in this manner later this year so that there can be easier dialogue between the people and the trust.

Watch this space :)
