Hi All,
Just a quick note to let you know about a new semi-regular underground cinema that's opening this coming Sunday - April 21st.
Held on the top floor of a converted warehouse hidden behind Green Lanes, until the late 60s the building was an organ factory which fittingly enough, built the organ that used to reside in The Coliseum Cinema on the corner of St Ann's Road.
It's a beautiful building and an interesting hidden piece of Harringay history - you can see some pictures of the inside at the website here: http://theorganfactory.co.uk/
Here's the flyer - the first feature is Control, the story of Ian Curtis and Joy Division and there's snacks and drinks available.
Doors at 3pm, film starts at 4pm!

This sounds great but am unfortunately not able to make it. I look forward to next months.
Thanks Hugh - hat tip to you for filling us in on the history in the first place!
Wow! This looks amazing! Will be sure to come along if not this time, then next.
It looks great. Can I move in?
As far as I can ascertain, Rest Cartwright & Son, Organ Builders, only occupied these premises until WW2 when the firm relocated to temporary accommodation in Church Street, Ware, Hertfordshire, eventually moving to a permanent Workshop in Camden Mews, London, N.W.1. They ceased trading c1965. I believe the Park Road premises were later used as a Laundry.
Thanks Richard - that's good to know - I obviously assumed they stayed here until they ceased trading in the 60s.
Hugh tells me you have a big archive about Rest Cartwright & Son - I'd love to see some of it one day - and if you'd like a trip back to see the building as it is now just drop me a line: james at jamesdlaw com
Please excuse my ignorance, James, but where do I reply? Is that your email address and did you not receive my earlier email communication?
Richard
