Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I've just learnt that a parent-run group is proposing a new free school in Crouch End, to be called The Oak School:

http://www.theoakschool.org.uk/

They are calling for people to register their interest via a Demand Survey.

Anyone have any views/inside knowledge/outraged political opinions on this? Or any experience of Steiner-Waldorf schools? The only thing I know about them - and it is based on a Steiner school in another hemisphere several decades ago - is that they don't let children start to read before their baby teeth have fallen out. (Now I type that, it sounds like an urban myth, but I swear it happened to a family I knew.)

As free schools continue to hit the headlines, the consultation on the N8 site is online until 28 October to collect resident/ parent views.  There's no shortage of places in Crouch End. Resources for this enterprise will come from the finite pot of resources for our children's schools.

Opponents of the free school have organised a public meeting - chaired by Islington MP Jeremy Corbyn  - 7.00pm Thursday 24 October at Christ Church Hall, Crouch End Hill, N8 8AX.  All welcome.

Totally unimportant, but true..

Rudolf Steiner lived across the road from me. There's a plaque on the house now.

Yes, that sounds just as perverse as testing kids for their lives at 6-7-8 or whatever it is you do nowadays.
