Two weeks ago I got a note from the Royal Mail saying they hadn't been able to deliver a letter as there was outstanding postage to pay. I would have to pay this, plus £1 handling fee to get my letter, which I did. I was expecting an important letter and it turned out that it was indeed this one.
So on Wednesday another note from Royal Mail saying the same thing. Thinking it was another letter from the same source I paid again.
Shock! Horror! I've just paid £1.73 to have Virgin junk mail delivered to me by post! Is this a new scam? Get the recipient to pay the postage? One way of cutting costs I suppose.
I am absolutely livid about this. Not just because I've paid for what they should have paid for but because now I won't do it again and that could mean that I miss out on further important documents that I do want and would have been willing to pay for.

Send it back to them in their doubtless reply-paid envelope, cross off the stamp, and add a few weights. You wont get your money back but you'll feel better.
It was in an unmarked envelope (so a PO junk mail filter would probably have still let it through) and no reply-paid envelope. No doubt they can absorb the cost of anything like that anyway. I've sent them an email.
Somebody has mentioned to me about trading standards but I doubt that they'd get involved. I might try them if I have no joy from these corporate thieves.
Very annoying indeed. Although tiresome and inconvenient, I suggest writing(hard copy) to them and request a refund and also compensation for your time and trouble. I once had to go and collect a damn detergent ball as Unilever were sending them out to everyone but of course they wouldn't fit thru the letterbox.(very popular with the delivery officers I'm sure) They apologised profusely and paid a small sum. Another time I got an under paid letter and had to collect.....an unsolicited circular from the local Labour Party! I emailed the address and received an apologetic letter and refund(hand delivered) I was also thanked for taking the trouble as one angry client = 1000 satisfied ones! It may be an idea to register with the Mail Preference Service(easy online) but Virgin are notorious for delivering to addresses rather than names-one of the reasons I won't use their services.
