I would really thank the kind people who helped my mum yesterday. She fell on Hermitage Road and some lovely people stopped to assist and helped her home.

I suspect that Covid may have had some impact on that kindness of strangers. No handshakes. Social distancing. Quarantine; and lockdown. Also in general getting into the habit of keeping our distance from family, friends and strangers - not wanting to spread Covid or catch the virus. And irritated or fearful - at least I was - when meeting people who refused to wear a mask. In one case they "explained" it was because of some rumour involving Bill Gates.
But now, quite rapidly it seems, we hear of incidents where friends or neighbours have returned to mutual aid and small public acts and gestures of politeness and the altruism Anna C describes.
