The Human face of Bureaucracy

As part of the MPS's commitment to reduce our carbon footprint and our impact on the environment, we have again signed up to support Earth Hour 2010. This global initiative will take place on Saturday 27 March 2009, at 20:30hrs, and will unite people by switching off their lights for one hour.

Earth Hour is about making small changes that everyone can make in their day-to-day lives. The MPS is keen to support this initiative to raise awareness of how each of us can reduce our impacts on the environment through simple housekeeping measures such as switching off lights and other electrical items when not in use.

This initiative will also help us to demonstrate our commitment to reduce carbon emissions by 10% on 2005/06 levels by 2010 as part of the MPS Climate Change Action Plan (CCAP) which supports the Mayor’s 60% carbon reduction target for London. As part of the CCAP, the MPS is committed to implementing a range of energy efficient technologies within our buildings as well as initiatives to reduce carbon from operational travel. To support this we are keen to encourage our employees to ‘do their bit’ to reduce their individual impacts on the environment through reducing energy consumption.

As well as contributing to a reduction in the MPS’s carbon footprint, this initiative also supports the Commissioner’s 5 Ps through making better use of our resources, increasing performance, eliminating waste as well as reducing the costs for maintaining the MPA estate.

To show your support, please make every effort to switch off lights where operationally feasible for one hour at 20:30hrs on Saturday 27 March 2010. We encourage all staff to take part in this initiative, and that going forward; staff are also reminded to switch off lights as well as other electrical items when not in use.
