The Future Direction for Planning - what might it mean for us?
The National Policy Planning Framework (NPPF) was published at the end of last month.
Originally published in 2012, this first implements around 85 planning policy reforms.
It sets out government policy for all national planning issues, such as planning for housing, shops, offices and good design.
All local planning policies and decisions on planning applications must take what the NPPF says about different types of land use into account. It is the main statement of Government policy on how development should happen in England. So it's worth at least being aware of it.
Should any of you be so moved, I'm attaching both the original guidance and an overview from planning and development consultancy Litchfields.
I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has any ideas as to what it might mean locally.

Gets 5 stars for plain English. Lots in there obviously. It does look positive re sustainable policies but fracking is the contentious area some will be watching.
Locally, I guess for large housing developments like those planned for the Sainsbury's Arena site & the Heartlands area this section on page 31 might help with traffic impact but, depends on how well assessments on the ground are carried out before hand and whether they are taken into account/how they are interpreted by the council and the developer;
106. Maximum parking standards for residential and non-residential development should only be set where there is a clear and compelling justification that they are necessary for managing the local road network, or for optimising the density of development in city and town centres and other locations that are well served by public transport (in accordance with chapter 11 of this Framework). In town centres, local authorities should seek to improve the quality of parking so that it is convenient, safe and secure, alongside measures to promote accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists.
