I just wondered if any one has converted one of their bedrooms into a bathroom and moved it upstairs. Just trying to get an idea on the cost in general. If you had a good job done on your conversions, could you let me know who did it.
Thanks in advance

I'd be inclined to expect £6k upwards as inevitably waste, central heating and hot/cold water pipes will need to be rerouted, in some cases quite substantially, then you've got the cost of the bathroom suite, shower, taps, tiles, fan, etc, in addition to the cost of the builder, plumber, c/h engineer, painter, tiler, plasterer, electrician (you may need some or all of these depending on the complexity of the job). Though it's possible to get quite cheap bathroom suites, taps and tiles, if you're having to pay this kind of money then I think it's worthwhile spending a bit more to get something decent.
So perhaps prepare yourself for £8k and then you can be pleasantly surprised if you get quotes for less than that.
As others have said it depends how much plumbing work you'll need, I think it would be easier if you put the bathroom upstairs above your existing bathroom - if that's possible. I would add at least 20% onto a builders quote, they always find something unexpected in our little victorian houses, and remember they usually quote ex-VAT so this needs to be added in too. We had work on our bathroom which was a pain while it was being done and took longer than we thought - but it was really worth it and I love it now.
^^ Sounds about right to me. Macerators are not expensive (c £300), so installing a bathroom at the front is not necessarily off the cards, however they are noisy and not recommended for intensive use (so better for a secondary bathroom rather than a family's primary bathroom).
thanks for all your replies. The bathroom would be above the existing bathroom which is at the back of the house. So hopefully this would be easier... Fingers crossed.
Brian's just done our bathroom (it didn't involve moving it to a different room but lots of pipework had to be re-routed), and he did a great job 07798 666677.
Also I'd recommend Demos Plumbing Merchants on Lordship Lane. I wanted a bathroom suite, taps and accessories from half a dozen different manufacturers and they were able to get hold of everything and did me a fantastic price on it. They came and delivered it all in one go at a time that was convenient to me rather than having to wait in for 10 different deliveries.
