Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The best fast-growing, tall, evergreen trees to provide privacy?

We need one or two trees for our garden to block out the flats behind and provide some privacy. Would really appreciate advice on the best tall trees for this purpose. Prefer fast growing evergreens that look nice but also with deep roots so the back garden wall won't be affected.

Could also use some (paid) help to actually plant them too, as we would buy them fairly mature and hence a deep hole would be needed.

So if there are any gardeners/green-fingers out there....get in touch.

The dreaded Leylandia is the fast growing tree you need. However I do believe it may carry a curse that will travel down thru the generations......

Bay trees or bay hedges grow incredibly quickly.

Beech grown as a hedge is quick-ish, and has the advantage that it keeps its (dead) leaves on in the winter and still looks good.

BAMBOO!! I am also overlooked too and last year i planted a few BAMBOO's ~ they literally grow a foot a week and within a few months i had perfect privacy and a beautiful evergreen, tropical look to the garden now. The last few weeks i've watched them go mad (in a good way!) They are incredible, best thing i ever did! My bamboo IS a trailing-root type as i wanted them to spread, however you can get non-spreading ones. My variety is Phyllostachys aureosulcata 'Aureocaulis'. I bought them from the Palm Centre (online) and coincidently, they are having a big sale this weekend! :) WILL ATTACH A PIC BELOW..

Pycarantha Firethorn or Bay leave plants, you can get them @ Homebase. Personally I think it's worth being a little selective And planting large shrubs or fruit trees (apricot , Apple , pear, blueberry) especially if it's a sunny spot. Gives a nicer aspect in a few years time, plus the seasonal changes which you don't always get with hedges. Other suggestions, guelder rose or Rosa Rugosa, enjoy your garden

Thanks for this - I was thinking about a Bay (also for culinary reasons).  And we are definitely getting an Apple tree to start off with too.
