Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The Antwerp Arms Pub, committee submit redevelopment plans without a shareholder vote.

The Antwerp Arms committee (that have sat for less than a year) have submitted plans to Haringey  council to redevelop  the pub without  informing their shareholders and supporters.

It is outrageous that shareholders were not informed or given the chance to vote. Please object to these proposals

Who are this committee. What percentage of the shares do they have. Was it not ironed out on the original deal about who could do what with the enterprise in the coming time.

Is it really a redevelopment?
One may say it's an upgrade, (from the application on the haringey planning website) larger toilets, stores, dining area, and most importantly making it wheelchair accessible, which believe me it's not accessible at the moment.

I am an occasional drinker there and have no shares in it but do have interest as it is a valuable asset to the community and confused to see the tagline "save the Antwerp arms pub"

People are looking at the plans without realising that the kitchen, the men's toilets and the back wall will be knocked down.

In reality it is a matter of  principle,

These are the promises made to shareholders by the Antwerp Arms on the Microgenius site ...

'We will be democratically accountable to Members
irrespective of the size of shareholding.

We will listen to Members and customers – we will, so far as
commercially and legally feasible, meet the needs of the
community expressed either at general meetings or to
individual members.'

By submitting these development plans behind shareholders backs, the Antwerp arms committee have broken the promises made on Microgenius,
Please let Haringey know that you are opposing on principle, but be quick as the application closes on 29/07/2016

The AAA have undermined all the good people that put their hearts and souls into this wonderful pub, and believed it was run by the COMUNITY !

Thank you for sending an email, this is why l am so furious, they have kept it all a closely guarded secret.  I saw in the June shareholders letter that they had commissioned an architect and were submitting plans shortly.  I immediately wrote a letter of complaint and said they should tell shareholders first and that l intended to oppose the plans.  A few days later l spoke to a committee member and insisted shareholders should be told first.  I then noticed that the July email had a survey with loaded questions in their favour regarding refurbishment and l realised there was a cover up of the development plans and that is why I searched Haringey's website and saw the plans had been registered in June.  Please oppose the plans on principle.

It's still going to be a pub, right? It will just have improved toilets and wheelchair access, right? They're adding a dining area, surely a good thing.

If it's any consolation that Salisbury is out of sight different to how it used to look in the 90s. The toilets then were over by wooden booth seats on the St Ann's Rd side.

Please see my reply to Rob.

Sure but "Save the Antwerp Arms" is seriously over egging it.

Jolly good thing Pam did over react otherwise you would have known nowt about it !

Oh Jessica thank you, trying to change the photo but can't.

Please help us to get our democratic vote on the Antwerp Arms development plans.  l was part of a group of local people that fought to buy our local pub the Antwerp. I was working with two other professionals from the start, as the press and publicity team, we were working for more than 30 hours a week, for nothing because we were passionate about the project. It is less than a year that the pub was successfully purchased and a committee elected. It seems if you give a small group of locals a lot of power their ethics fly out the window. The committee have decided to build an extension which involves knocking down the men's toilets and the back wall. I am sure that some people will like the plans, but the committee have gone to a lot of trouble to keep it secret, including creating a survey regarding refurbishment with loaded questions in their favour. That raised the suspicion leading to the submitted plans being discovered. Over 325 individual shareholders have not been told and have been declined their democratic right to vote on this important decision. Please help us by objecting to the plans on principle, then hopefully the plans won't be approved, and we will get our vote next time, please go to link and comment on the application.
