Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The Anonymous Widower Passes Judgement on Harringay Green Lanes Station

The Anonymous Widower blog is written by a London resident who starts the blog;s 'About" section with the following description:

What this blog will eventually be about I do not know.

But it will be about how I’m coping with the loss of my wife and son to cancer in recent years and how I manage with being a coeliac and recovering from a stroke.

Within this loose remit, the blogger has picked up on a could of issues that need attention at Harringay's second station, with some good news for our neighbours to the east.

AW sums it up thus:

There is work to do to get round the years of neglect.

The step-free access at Harringay Green Lanes is derisory and the station buildings aren’t the best, but it does look like something is happening at South Tottenham. This document from the the line’s User Group shows a discussion about what might be happening.

Work has already started on the bridge at South Tottenham to strengthen it for the future, but it looks like the one at Harringay Green Lanes is in no better condition.

Re the South Tottenham works - all going ahead. The BGOLUG report is out of date as Network Rail has demolished the old ticket office - the cafe moved on.  They forgot to consult the people in the flats that adjoin the station - when we got wind of the plans, just by chance as I noticed then in the weekly planning office reports, there was a series of meetings. These ended with the platform 1 lift shaft being moved fractionally away from the flats, to reduce (not prevent) the nuisance of being overlooked, and the sound of lift announcements permeating their living space 18 hours a day.  They don't seem to have incorporated any plans to extend the platforms here, despite there being definite plans to electrify this line and add more carriages in future.  As you will all know, this line is stuffed full in the rush hour, so the faster it can get more capacity - more frequent trains? - the better.
