Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The formal response of the Crossrail 2 team to comments made during this year's consultation has just been published. 

Of particular importance to Harringay is the issue of whether any branch through Haringey would be routed via Turnpike Lane or Wood Green. Their response to comments on this issue was as follows:

During the 2015 consultation, we presented two options for the Crossrail 2 route between Seven Sisters and New Southgate. One proposed option would route the railway via Turnpike Lane and Alexandra Palace while the other option would call at Wood Green only.

The majority of respondents generally favoured a Crossrail 2 route with stations at both Alexandra Place and Turnpike Lane. Conversely, the London Borough of Haringey favours a station at Wood Green only, as they feel a station here has greater potential to regenerate the town centre and the economic benefits would be greater.

We are carefully assessing both options in light of feedback from the consultation and further design work is being carried out so that a preferred option can be agreed, which will inform a further period of public consultation.

This is ridiculous. What do we elect these people for?

Going via Wood Green saves over £1bn; these stations are very expensive!

I suspect that Haringey were told, behind the scenes, that if they wanted the New Southgate route to remain an option, they would have to come up with suggestions that brought costs down *and* maximised the number of new homes.

It has been said that if Crossrail is about transport Crossrail2 is about homes!

In a ideal world Turnpike Lane and Alexandra Palace would be great!
Does this mean that the line is more likely to go ahead?
This is ridiculous. The council wants a new shiny building so is going against residents' wishes. Pathetic!

If regeneration is the aim then it tends not to work in patches, but spreads.

In my humble etc, they should route via TP Lane and, I think, being a cheaper option, have used the extra to open up the Piccadilly Line vent at the Hawes and Curtis outlet into a station for Green Lanes on the P line. The gap between Manor House and TP Lane is one of the longest within Zone 1-3. Then again they have trouble enough phasing the trains as it is.
Anyway, I think that would give enough of a boost to radiate up to Wood Green! 

Harringay Ratepayers Association campaigned ferociously to get a station at the junction of St Ann's Road at the time the Piccadilly line was being construction. Think how wonderful it would be if they had succeeded.
It won't happen, Brexit killed it off.

I fear it was dead before that FPR.. The New Southgate/Ally Pally branch has always been a PR piece, not to mention a pipe dream. Totally irrelevant for London's transport needs.

Just one big hype to get more trains underground that are not actually run by LU, with it's difficult union relations.

As I've said all along, CR2 might emerge one day, but I think the Ally Pally Branch will be pruned with the excuse of cost cutting, or that the usage will never justify the investment.

I don't see how the Turnpike Lane option makes sense either - it will take just as long or longer to get to central London than the Piccadilly, and the Piccadilly will have shiny new trains long before CR2 will ever arrive. Even though I'm on the Ladder with TPL being my closest station, I'd rather see Wood Green regenerated than have the option to get to Dalston a little bit quicker.

I know a lot of people think Crossrail = higher house prices, I legitimately think having a wonderful regenerated Wood Green on the doorstep will be better for all - plus it will benefit more from the transit times and the Piccadilly will be quieter for TPL.
