Tamper proof number plate screws initiative

The Metropolitan Police, BP and Halfords have joined together on an initiative (led by Waltham Forest police) to tackle number plate theft by offering the FREE supply and fitting, by Halfords, of tamper proof number plate screws.

Thefts of number plates happen on Harringay Ward. These stolen number plates are used to hide the true identity of other vehicles for a variety of illegal reasons.

Despite the problem of having to report the theft and getting replacements made those who's cars get stolen from often find the theft starts to generate enquiries from various organisations such as the Congestion Charge, Speeding Cameras etc which cause them undue distress.

This initiative can greatly help to prevent this offence. If your number plates are only held on with double sided tape they can be peeled off. If they are screwed on, the screws can be undone. Either way tamper proof screws help to prevent this crime and the problems it causes.
