Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

District Councils have been using RIPA (Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act) to target "minor" offences such as dog fouling and littering. There's more on it in today's papers.
I'd be quite happy for Harringay to "snoop" on dog fouling and fly tippers, except that I suspect they'd spend a lot of money doing it badly, with little overall effect.
What do you think? Is it an infringement of human rights to use surveillance for "minor" crimes? Or do you think it's fair enough if it results in cleaner streets and prosecution for offenders?

I get so fed up with people banging on about "Human Rights". How about "Human Responsibilities" ?

I suppose it's easy for me, since I don't have a dog and don't tip flies (unless the service was really exceptional) but there is no such thing as a " minor " crime. Let them use cameras by all means.
